Why is Madi an EMDR Therapist?

Why is Madi an EMDR Therapist?

When I began working as a trauma therapist, I noticed that the approaches I was using were providing relief, but the relief seemed to be temporary at best. Clients remained feeling “stuck”,  and I was becoming frustrated with the limitations of these therapies. I knew I had found something different when I was introduced to EMDR.

EMDR offers a mind-body approach that goes deeper than traditional talk therapy to process and release physical, mental, and emotional patterns connected to past stressful or traumatic events. Just as our physical bodies can heal naturally on their own (e.g. skin your knee, body clots, scab forms, blood vessels bring oxygen for healing), our mental processes are set up in a similar way. Traumatic or stressful experiences overwhelm the nervous system and can get “stuck” in our bodies, causing an imbalance in the mind-body connection. If these experiences are not integrated emotionally, spiritually, and physically, they remain trapped in the nervous system where they can wreak havoc on our minds, bodies, and spirits. EMDR therapy uses mechanisms that tap into the body’s natural mental healing processes and directs the body towards healing so that this “stuck” material can move through the nervous system in an adaptive way for each individual. Additionally, without reintegrating this material, we are a risk for a variety of chronic mental health symptoms and medical conditions, such as chronic pain.

I not only believe that trauma can be healed, but I believe it can be transformative. EMDR can be used with a variety of other therapies. Some of the modalities that I have integrated with EMDR include somatic therapy, mindfulness-based therapy, experiential therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. I believe that every person has the innate capacity to heal their trauma. I would love to talk with you more about EMDR therapy and how it can be a part of your healing process.
