Why Katie Loves EMDR
I have had the privilege of spending the past two years working in Residential and Partial Hospitalization settings. I have immensely enjoyed this work and have learned so much throughout my time in that setting. It is such a joy to run groups and teach coping skills to people of all different backgrounds, and it has been very special to watch people progress through the use of these skills. At the same time, all modalities have their limitations. Over time, I began to recognize that, for many people, the use of these coping skills felt more like putting on a band-aid as opposed to addressing the underlying wound.
When I got the opportunity to intern with Seattle EMDR Associates, I felt so thrilled to be able to explore a modality that does offer the deeper-level healing that other modalities may not always be able to offer. While I am new to exploring and learning about this modality, the things I have learned about its efficacy are truly inspiring. When speaking with other EMDR therapists, I have experienced immense joy at learning about their experiences working within the modality. I am excited to spend more time working within EMDR and to think about how it adds to the skills knowledge I already have in DBT, CBT, and ACT.
