I love EMDR because it is backed by extensive research and can also offer clients the opportunity to address challenges without having to say some of the most difficult things out loud. It can be hard to get into the details and sharing them out loud may feel impossible for some. EMDR offers clients the opportunity to give an overview of their challenges, still with some exploration, and reprocessing and desensitization can be done without saying every difficult detail that is coming up in the mind out loud.
My favorite part of EMDR is having the honor of walking alongside a client in their journey and seeing the tides turn from internalized conflict to a more confident calm in real time. There's a visible and palpable shift in the room as clients begin to feel relief and work through a target (source of distress) and get to the other side. There's nothing quite like that moment. There are many different therapeutic modalities out there, which resonates most is unique to each individual; and when EMDR feels like the right fit for a client, the results can be truly life-changing.
